Igniting a passion for Jesus in New England

Ray Pennoyer

Ray became a Christian at age 10 after hearing a sermon on John Chapter 1. “Right there, it was clear to me that I was a sinner and that Jesus had given His all for me,” said Ray. “In response, I gave my life to Him.” God planted a passion in Ray to read and understand the Bible, which helped him through turbulent times in life.

Ray’s love for learning led him to gain a bachelor’s degree from Fairfield University, a master’s of divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell and a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University. He puts his teaching gifts to good work at Walnut Hill, where he occasionally preaches in Waterbury, coordinates Adult Sunday School classes and teaches Bible seminars. Ray also helps out with security. He and his wife, Donna, serve on the Logistics and Planning Committees, are Scripture readers, help lead communion, and coordinate greeters and ushers. Donna also fills in as house manager.

A true New Englander, Ray was born in Hartford, grew up in MA and CT, and now resides in North Branford, CT. He and Donna have five children, two grandsons and one granddaughter. Ray works for a plastics manufacturing company in Portland during the day and teaches at Sacred Heart University at night. He enjoys reading, writing, doing yard work and spending time with family.
