I Have A Question

If you have questions about what it means to follow Jesus, don’t worry. Everyone does. Here are some basic questions people ask about Christianity.

  • At Walnut Hill, you talk a lot about surrendering your life to Jesus. What does that mean?

In our culture, “surrender” is a weak word. However, have you ever seen someone drowning? If they fight to stay afloat, they can easily kill the person who is trying to rescue them. It is only when the person leans back into the arms of the rescuer that they are truly helped. The same happens with God. We can be so busy trying to get to God by ourselves that we miss his free and open offer in Jesus. If we would just rest into the forgiveness that we can receive through Jesus’ dying and rising again, then we will discover that God has already done all that needs to be done to save us!

  • Aren’t all religions the same?

Christianity does not claim to be a religion about God, but instead calls people to a relationship with Him.  If you are looking for a religion – a set of rules to follow to reach God - then there are lots to choose from.  But if you are looking to come to God as “Father”, then the Bible says we do that through Jesus.  Jesus’ death and resurrection make it possible for us to have a relationship with God.

  • Do I have to change the way I live?

The answer is not quite so simple. While it’s true that surrendering your life to Jesus is a decision that will shape the rest of your life, few people actually change their lives overnight. What you probably will experience after surrendering to Christ is the DESIRE to begin making changes that honor Him. God promises to send the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us as we follow Christ and let Him live His life through us. It is the Spirit’s influence on our lives that causes us to want to live in a way that pleases the Lord. But doing so is a life-long journey, and in some cases, a life-long struggle. God does not want for us to wait until we’re perfect to come to Him. He wants to work through our imperfect lives so that, as He changes us, we can love and bless others.

If you have a question you want to ask personally, why not come to “Answers, Over Easy”, a session with our pastors that meets at a local restaurant. Basically, you bring your questions, and we’ll buy breakfast for anyone who is exploring what it means to surrender their lives to Jesus.
