What is a community group?
Community Groups provide a way to connect with others, make a difference in the community and challenge us to be more like Christ. Community Groups are made up of 12-20 people who meet in homes. They are about living the way Jesus lived, not just talking about it.
-
Why are they so important?
At Walnut Hill, our mission is to help people become fully devoted followers of Christ. We believe Community Groups are the place where sustained life change occurs. This is where real life and real issues are discussed. In Community Groups, you develop relationships with other believers on a deeper level than is possible in the large services. If you are looking for a place to experience community with others while discovering God's word together, Community Groups are the answer.

How often do Groups meet?
Community Groups meet at different times and days throughout the week. Groups typically meet every two weeks. Click here to download the 2011-2012 Community Group calendar.

What happens in a Community Group?
Even though Community Groups are not the same, there is a similarity in how they function. There is time spent hanging out and connecting with each other, time for discussion and reflection surrounding that night’s study, and time spent in prayer and care for one another. Being in a Community Group is about being a part of authentic community with others. Everyone in the Group has an opportunity to grow at their own pace by sharing with and hearing from others in their Group.
-
What about my kids?
Children are an essential part of Community Group life! All of our groups are multi-generational, and each Group has a leader that organizes age-appropriate activities for the kids.
-
Why are Groups town-based?
A basic part of the Community Group dynamic is that it exists to help live out the church’s outreach mission to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our communities. We believe that people are invested in the town in which they live. Being headquartered in the town makes it easier for people to meet (and care for one another) and also find ways to serve as a group in their neighborhoods.
-
What is the Group’s structure?
Community Groups are team-led. Besides the Group Leader, each Group has leaders for the areas of Discipleship, Hospitality, Prayer, Care, Church in Action (Outreach), and Emerging Generation (kids and youth).
-
What do we study each time we meet?
Generally speaking, Groups dig deeper into the sermon topics preached from Walnut Hill’s pulpit the previous weeks. The Community Group’s Discipleship Leader uses material prepared by the church to lead these lively discussions.

Is there time for fun?
Absolutely! Each week, Groups spend part of their meetings just hanging out and getting to know each other better. Many also schedule other events each month – ladies’ nights out, guys’ golfing or camping outings, family picnics, couples’ dates, dinner parties, etc.
