Where Do I Start?

Because of God’s great love for us, He has been pursuing each one of us through the years – and we get the opportunity to respond! There is no special formula for doing this. We simply pray, asking God to forgive us for the ways that we have failed to live in His world His way. We give God our lives and ask Him to give us the strength to live for Him. You don’t need to say a set prayer, but if it helps to have an idea of what to say, then you could use this simple prayer:

Dear God,

Thank you for enabling me to know you by sending Jesus to die on the cross and rise again so that I might be able to have a relationship with you. I want to follow you. Please forgive me for my sin and the many ways that I have sought to live for myself and have ignored you. Today, I choose to turn around and follow you. I give my life to you. Please show me how to live for you each day.

Amen (this literally means, ‘I agree’ and is often used to end a prayer)

If you have prayed a prayer like this from your heart, then you have surrendered your life to Jesus and you are forgiven. Be assured that you are now a follower of Jesus (Galatians 3:26).
